![]() On August 6th, I traveled to Stillman Valley Illinois to visit one of my favorite historic sites in the area. My sister Julie and I were taking photos of the monument and the small cemetery where 12 militia soldiers were slaughtered and buried in the first engagement of the BlackHawk War in 1832. The men are buried at the site and the Monument marks the hillside along with 12 grave markers. The men are not buried underneath the markers.....they are buried in a mass grave somewhere on the grounds.
