Touched by Darkness - Part 1

Remember a few months back I blogged about how when people are doing bad things, it may not seem bad to them?  This is the premise of the case of the Dark Entity that tried to consume a 15 year old boy.  I was contacted by a frantic mother that started her phone call as most calls I get when dealing with the paranormal, "You are going to think I am crazy, but....." and this woman proceeded to tell me of the drastic changes she had observed in her son over the past few weeks.  We talked for a bit, and I assured her more than once that I didn't think she was crazy.  I decided to meet with the family and the boy and decide for myself what I might be dealing with.  I kept in mind that this could very well be teenage angst and an over reactive mother.  I also reflected back onto my time as a Paramedic, and I thought that it could be quite possible that a mental illness was beginning to surface.  We set up a time to meet when I would be off of work, and before the phone was hung up, I could hear growling over the connection.  I asked the woman if she could hear it, and she replied that it had been happening since she had noticed the drastic change in her son's demeanor.  I asked her to keep a journal from the time we hung up until the time I stepped into her house to meet with her and her son.  I explained that I wanted to know anything and everything that she felt was strange or out of the ordinary.  I told her that if it is weird....write it down.  We can determine the meaning of it during our meeting.  She agreed, and our phone call ended.  I knew the family, and I knew the boy.  I also knew of the Catholic background of the family, so I have to honestly say that I thought this was a case of a teenager being a teenager.  I would later find out I was wrong.  2 days later, I was knocking on the door of the house and being invited in.  The woman and I made the usual small talk, and then the boy was asked by his mother to step into the kitchen and speak with me.  Keep in mind that I knew this boy.  When he stepped into the kitchen, he looked terrible.  I immediately noticed that he appeared pasty and almost grey.  I again reflected back to my time as a Paramedic and blurted out, "Are you having any chest pain?"  The boy looked at me puzzled and answered, "No.  Why?"  I replied, "No particular reason, just thought that maybe you were."  and I smiled.  I was trying to reassure him and his mother.  I sat down with the boy and we talked for a bit.  As we were talking I could feel the heaviness in the room with us.  The boy didn't seem to have anything he could think of to look forward to.  I asked him if he had any bad thoughts, and he replied to me that he did not, but he did reveal that he saw a shadow in his room every night and that it whispered to him.  I asked what it was that the shadow whispered.  He answered, "Come with me."  I looked at the boy and asked him what he thought that meant.  He told me that he thought it meant that the shadow didn't like being alone and it wanted him to commit suicide so that he could be with him on the other side.   I was a bit alarmed at the answer he gave me.  I then asked him if there was a chance that he or his friends had dabbled with a Ouija board or anything.  He said that his friends and him had been doing paranormal investigations and that they had been getting EVP's of somebody in his friend's basement.  I asked what the EVP's said, and he told me that they thought it was a boy that had died in the house years ago of a disease like cancer was his answer.  I asked him to be honest with me as his mother had exited the room at this point, I asked if they had used a Ouija board.  He answered that his friends had in that basement, but that he was not present at the time.  I explained to him that it was not better to be with the "boy" on the other side, and that I was going to help him to get rid of whatever it was that was whispering to him at night.  I asked his mother to join us back in the room, and I explained that I was going to make some calls to friends in the field and also seek council from a Catholic Priest to see if he could offer me guidance or assistance in this situation.  I assured them that everything would be alright, and I left the house.  I got into my vehicle, and I pulled away from the house.  I thought to myself, "Ok.....now what are you gonna do stupid?  You know better than to assure anybody of anything."  I had always learned as a Paramedic and in the Fire Service to not make somebody else's emergency your emergency.  It makes you a less effective rescuer.  I couldn't help it.  This was an emergency, and I had already made it mine.  I was on the phone with fellow investigators and also a demonologist.  After speaking to everybody, it was decided that the Priest doing a blessing on the boy would be my best option.  I also decided to do a house cleansing of the boy's residence.  I had just placed the last call of the night to my good friend Sandy Wells, and we were talking about this case.  The entire time we were speaking, we could both hear growling and moaning over the entire phone conversation.  After that night, every time I spoke about the case with anybody on the phone, the growling and groaning would be in the background.  If I used my phone and didn't speak of the case, the calls were fine.  It would only happen when I spoke of the case, and it didn't matter if I used my land line or cell phone.  Sandy lent me a lot of support and ideas to try to get this "boy" to cross over to the light.  The weirdest thing to happen during this entire case, happened when I was driving to see the Catholic Priest.  I will blog about it tomorrow night in Part 2 of this blog.  Thanks for reading and following.  I look forward to finishing this story in 3 parts over the weekend, and it is a relief to talk about it and get it off my chest.  I welcome constructive comments, and look forward to discussing what I can with any and all of you as long as my clients identity is not compromised.  Thanks again everyone.

Dan, if I'm following you right, the growling was over your cell phone, and somehow this...whatever was attached to it?

Our belief is that it was the entity trying to scare me away from taking the case. The activity did escalate during the 3 days, and I did eventually take care of it. The growling wasn't heard ever again after we closed this particular case.

Interesting. Were it a land line only I would check for radio interference (we have it, get a religious radio station that is unreal) as you said 'hand set' I presume cell phone? Sounds like a pain so far but dealable. Look forward to hearing more.
