Titles - What's in a name?

It's been a while.  Sorry everyone, life happens.  A friend of mine posted something on facebook earlier about the difference between "Ghosthunter" and "Paranormal Investigator".  I found it interesting and each reference had a different definition according to the group that created it.  I agree with their take on each, but I still believe they are just titles.  We give ourselves titles to add credibility, to make ourselves feel more important, or sometimes just so it looks cool on the cards we had made from vista print.  In my travels as "Ghosthunter Dan" I have noticed something - When a family is in distress or being torn apart by something they don't understand, they could really care less if you call yourself  "Klem Cadittle Hopper the Spirit Walker".  In this industry I have come to find out that self entitlement is often times more important to us than helping clients and just being you.  I call myself "Ghosthunter Dan" because it sounds better than  "Dan Norvell - The guy that seeks proof of ghosts or spirits and tries to help when he can but might not always have the right answers dude."  I think I'll keep the ghosthunter one.  My title is just that, a title.  A title that makes it easier for people to google search me.  A title that I am working on building my own credibility for.  I think back to an accident scene I went to once and when I squeezed my happy ass into the backseat of the car and held the little boy's hand as they cut the car apart from around us, that little boy didn't care that my title was Lt. Dan Norvell - Firefighter/Paramedic.  That little boy was glad that I also had a little boy, and that I was there to help.  Puts things into a certain perspective, doesn't it.  Point is everyone, nobody gives 2 shits about "Demonologist Dan" or "Dan the Demon Slayer".  People just want you to be as honest as you can, admit that you may not have all of the answers, reach out for help if you need to, and just listen.  Keep doing what you all do, and don't worry too much about titles.  That little boy in that car didn't care, and neither will the people that you will help in the future.

Excellent blog Dan....I totally agree. Titles and Labels are only a way to make people feel better about themselves not the people they are helping.
